Our At Home Self Care Guide

Our At Home Self Care Guide

Let’s face it: this year has been tough on your skin. We’ve all been spending more time indoors, which means more stress on your skin from heaters and air conditioning. Here at Storm + India, we’ve been chatting with our team and the decision is unanimous - we’re starting to take our self care from home seriously.

This year hasn’t stopped us from wanting to take care of ourselves. We’re always looking for new ways to experience wellness from the inside out and with that, we bring you our 2020 at home self care guide. Think of it as a survival guide, if you will, for all those days and weeks still to come indoors! It’s time to get real about your self-care routine, ladies!

AT HOME SELF CARE GUIDE

1. Sleep is important
The importance of sleep is underrated. Not only does a lack of sleep impact your physical health, but it also hurts your mental health, too. Although it seems like an obvious wellness tip, getting the recommended amount of sleep per night is overlooked by many. Getting 7-9 hours of sleep each night will help your body restore for the new day so you can make the most out of it.

2. Understand gut health
Gut health is another underrated and often overlooked area of wellness. But the truth is your gut health is directly linked to your mental wellbeing, which is why it is important to get your gut health on track. There are many ways to improve your gut health - including eating more plant-based meals, eating fermented foods with beneficial bacteria, limiting artificial sweeteners and using more spices in your cooking.

3. Drink more water than usual
The recommended amount of water you should drink on a daily basis is 8 glasses or 2 litres of water per day. However if you are spending more time at home this year, consider your use of heaters or air conditioning units. If you are spending more time at home it is important to ensure you aren’t dehydrating your body and when it comes to water, you can never have enough!

4. Start a tea ritual
Another great way to stay hydrated is by drinking more tea. Some of our best selling blends like the Berry Cassis and Beauty Tea are great additions to add as a treat to your daily routine. You can also brew your tea and chill it in the fridge, making for a delicious summer blend on ice. Tea rituals are a great way to reward yourself with something sweet, while curbing those sugar cravings. Our Berry Cassis is naturally sweet with subtle notes of apple accompanied by rich summer berry flavours.

5. Learn to say no when you need to
Self-care rituals don’t just have to be about physical changes! Be sure to take care of your mind and heart, too. It is important to know your boundaries and say no when you need to. After all, each of us can only handle so much. This year has been especially difficult for working mums and those now working from home, so be sure to remind yourself to not always answer with a polite acceptance. Sometimes saying no is good for you.

6. Practice mindful eating
Spending more time at home has been an immediate invitation to procrastin-eat! That’s okay, we feel it too. The best way to keep your habits on track is to eat mindfully and spend more time fuelling your body with what it needs. Chances are you won’t feel full after snacking on a chocolate bar, so swap it out with intention!

7. Escape into the page of a novel
While we can’t travel right now, we still can explore through the pages of a great novel. Reward yourself with some alone time, get to know new characters, and spend some time escaping through the pages.

8. Plant something in your garden
Another great way to grow yourself is to physically watch something you planted grow. You know that feeling of satisfaction you get when your friend compliments you on the growth of your house plant? Imagine the feeling when you finally see a seedling peek through the soil! A great place to start is herbs and edible flowers to freshen up your morning smoothie bowls. But the list is endless!

9. Splurge on a candle whose scent whisks you away
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been spending more time soaking in the tub this year. Sometimes all you need is a relaxing playlist, some uplifting bath salts and a soothing scent to whisk you away. Don’t be afraid to indulge!

10. Start a gratitude journal
Finally, the team at Storm + India have been loving journaling this year. There has been a lot more time for it and in a year like 2020, what better time to make note of what you do have, rather than what you don’t! Starting a gratitude journal is a great way to stay on top of positive energy and keep anxiety at bay.

Stay kind to yourself!

Always,
Storm + India
