THE SECRET TO SUCCESS

THE SECRET TO SUCCESS

Rose Keddell is an energetic woman. She’s a member
of the New Zealand Black Sticks hockey team and is on her way to Gold Coast for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She has a communications degree and a drive for a career in the media. This year, Rose started her own podcast series called ‘The Life Edit’, where she explores the notion of success, talking to a range of passionate and successful New Zealanders about their own journeys to success.

TELL US ABOUT THE LIFE EDIT?
The Life Edit is a project that arose out of a conversation I had with a friend around how we wanted to go about living our lives. Was it best to work hard while we are young and save to buy the house and set ourselves up financially? Or use our younger years to galavant the globe and become rich through experience? What would make us more successful? Therefore I decided to have conversations with people who I believed were successful around what their journeys entailed and share with the public as a podcast called ‘The Life Edit’. So far it has been a really interesting and inspiring journey. I love it! Plus I’m such a chatterbox so this is the perfect past time for me.

WHAT IS SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE ADVICE THAT HAS COME OUT OF YOUR PODCAST INTERVIEWS?
I have honestly been so amazed with the words that have been shared with me so far. I loved Cam Neate’s approach to risk taking. He explains that he likes to take calculated risks that have an end goal. I think this is so relevant for a lot of people as sometimes it does just take some risky business to get to where you want to go but if you know it is going to keep you on your path to happiness and personal success, then go for it.

SO WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON SUCCESS SO FAR?
My thoughts are totally that success is completely different for everyone. What success looks like to me might not at all be what it looks like to you and this is what I think is so important to remember, especially in our day and age where comparing ourselves to others is almost part of the daily routine. I don’t believe success is a healthy bank account either, unless we are talking about our personal banks that are filled with the good stuff like happiness or healthy relationships. Success, I believe, is being happy in who you are, realising what you are good at (because EVERYONE is good at something) and sharing it with the world.

YOU’RE ABOUT TO HEAD TO THE COMMONWEALTH GAMES. HOW DO YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEALTH WHEN TRAVELLING?
Yes I am, very exciting times ahead! It will often depend on the country in terms of the precautions you need to take to stay healthy and fit but it is always important to drink plenty of water, carry some hand sanitizer with you to be extra germ savvy, vitamin C and Storm and India Detox Tea (to rid your body of nasties).

WHAT IS YOUR DAILY WELLNESS ROUTINE?
I like to move in the morning so I will either go for a walk or do some yoga when I first get up. I also like to write my thoughts down in a journal to clear my mind for the day. I have found writing things down so helpful for mental clarity, especially on the days where things are a little tough. Solving all the world's problems (mainly just my own)! I am relatively busy during the day with training so at the end of the day I will try to have a period of time where I relax post training, have a cup of tea and a couple of square of dark chocolate. It’s the best! Plus, chocolate definitely contributes to my overall ‘wellness’.

IS TEA A DAILY RITUAL FOR YOU?
Definitely! I try to limit my coffee intake to one or two per day but I love hot drinks so tea is my go to. There’s something so cleansing about a herbal tea also!

WHO WOULD YOU INVITE FOR TEA?
My Grandparents! They were all such inspiring, generous people and there are so many questions I would love to ask them now that I never got the chance when they were all still alive.
